So how did all this start in the
first place? Well, it was sort of an arranged marriage...
Peter's version of the story: Peter
met Maureen through his father, Joe Henry, who was Dean at Harvard Dental
School, and Maureen's advisor/mentor. One day in 1987, Joe called Peter
and invited him to a picnic -- across the country, since Peter lived in San
Francisco! For some reason, it seemed like a reasonable invitation anyway,
so Peter got on a redeye that night and headed for Boston. The next day,
they met, and a long friendship began (although no romance, as both were
actually attached at the time, but Peter knew....). Over the years, they
remained friends, and met for ice cream or at the Henry house whenever Peter was
in town. Then, in 1996 (October 6, to be exact), having discovered earlier
that both he and Maureen were single and available, Peter made a decisive move:
he flew to Boston, ostensibly to visit his dad. Maureen picked him up at
the airport, as she had done numerous times at Joe's request (!), and dropped
him off at Joe's house. At dinner together the next night (at the
legendary but now gone Division 16), Peter decided to propose then and
there. Well, sort of. Maureen said "don't push it", but
didn't say no. So, Peter pushed it, advising that he would only ask
"12 times"...10 months, 20+ trips to Boston, and 11 more
"warm-up" proposals later, Maureen accepted her ring on August 14,
1997, under a full moon at midnight, on a small private lake in Newton,
Massachusetts, with roughly 8 very cooperative ducks as witnesses.
The very next day, she reciprocated by putting braces on Peter.

Well, it's like this...
